BlackPinkgirls Creed

I am BlackPinkgirls-

Exposure and Experience will change your mindset. Who you were before the mindset change is different from the person you’re becoming. Once your environment shifts to a place greater than before you have been exposed to greatness! You will walk, talk, think and even dress differently because you are BECOMING what you think and believe!

Our BlackPinkgirls #teens page is designed to help Afro -descendent (Black) girls with every day health concerns AND connect our girls with educational opportunities to help them excel in life and prepare for their future.

BlackPink met with a group of preteen and teenage girls and a Pediatrician to ask what their top health concerns were, and here are the top 4 things that were on their minds.

Anxiety – girls are concerned about “EVERTHING”, they want a solution to most of life’s problems quickly. Aaaah, that’s not going to happen but…. Anxiety is normal, it’s the brain’s way of signaling the body of danger, and it becomes a concern when a teen does not
want to do anything, no daily activities, seems withdrawn and is extremely irritable. The longer anxiety goes unnoticed, the more dangerous it is, so if persitent symptoms occur, it is encouraged to seek help from a proffessional.

Monthly Cycles (cramps, heavy bleeding, pad vs tampons) -Girls normally start their cycle around 8 to 13. “EVERTHING” starts to change like breast development and more importantly, hormones. When a girl starts her cycle all parts of her reproductive system have matured and are working together. YES THEY CAN GET PREGNANT! How do they handle cramps, heavy bleeding and which pads should they use?

Our holistic Physician suggests the following:

  • download an app to track your cycle
  • STOP eating sugar and red meat 2 weeks before cycle starts
  • drink an abundancde of water
  • Daily Movement or Exercise

Social Media – The majority of a teens  want to be  on social media.  Social Media is affecting the pre-teens and teens self-worth, as  they are watching other teens being influenced by their actions. To combat this it is important to only get a social media account when you are truly ready and with a parent’s permission!

Most girls say their parents aren’t aware of what they are doing on social media, and if  they had their own children they would restrict social media access until middle or highschool with close monitoring.

Grades – Although it is proven that girls succeed with better grades than boys because they plan ahead, set academic goals and put forth an effort in planning for college, they are worried about their grades all the time!

Their wish is for parents to be more involved in their completing homework depending on grade and age level.
Parents to hold them accountable in achieving their grades.
Parents should want to understand their school work or get them a tutor when it seems like help is needed.
